Papuaaround.com – The Papua Provincial Government continues to intensify efforts to ensure the health and safety of livestock, particularly cattle and goats, as the region prepares for the upcoming month of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr celebration. Through the Provincial Agriculture Office, authorities aim to guarantee that meat products remain safe for public consumption while maintaining sufficient supply and stable prices.

Head of the Papua Provincial Agriculture Office, Lunanka V. M. L. Daimboa, stated in Jayapura that routine monitoring of animal health has become a key priority. According to him, the government consistently conducts inspections on livestock, including animals entering Papua from other regions, to prevent the spread of contagious animal diseases. This preventive approach is considered crucial to protecting consumers and maintaining food safety standards.

He emphasized that all cattle and goats must meet health and eligibility requirements before being distributed to the market. By strengthening supervision, the provincial government seeks to ensure that meat consumed by the public remains safe, hygienic, and fit for consumption throughout the fasting month and the festive period that follows.

Beyond health supervision, the government is also focusing on the availability of beef and goat meat in Papua. Daimboa explained that most of the region’s meat supply is still sourced from outside Papua. Nevertheless, at the national level, the central government continues to implement measures to stabilize supply and prices ahead of high-demand periods such as Ramadan and Eid.

Although meat prices in Papua are generally higher than the national average, the provincial government, in collaboration with business operators, remains committed to maintaining adequate stock until Eid al-Fitr. Authorities recognize that price disparities pose challenges, yet they continue to work toward ensuring availability so that community needs are met.

To support these efforts, the Papua Provincial Government actively monitors prices and stock levels of strategic commodities, including beef and goat meat. This monitoring is carried out regularly through weekly regional inflation control meetings, which integrate data and coordination across sectors. These meetings allow the government to respond quickly to potential supply disruptions or price fluctuations.

Daimboa added that the inflation control meetings do not focus solely on meat products. Other essential food commodities are also closely observed to maintain overall supply stability and protect the purchasing power of the public. Through this comprehensive approach, the government aims to create balanced market conditions during critical periods.

Looking ahead, the provincial government plans to further strengthen coordination with the central government, as well as district and city administrations and business stakeholders. This collaboration is expected to ensure smooth distribution and continuous availability of strategic food commodities, allowing the community to observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid in a calm and secure environment.
