PAPUAAROUND – The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Jayapura, Papua, stated that they are ready to promote Kampung Yoboi as a tourist village at the upcoming 2024 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI).
Acting Regent of Jayapura Triwarno Purnomi, in Sentani, Friday, said that the government has always supported community self-help activities or movements to promote regional development.
“The government is certainly proud of the achievements that Yoboi Village has achieved in 2021, which was included in the nomination for the top 50 Indonesian tourist villages,” he said.
According to Triwarno, his party appreciates the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for paying attention to Jayapura Regency, so that in 2021 Yoboi Village can be included in the top 50 nominations.
“The government will provide support and encouragement for Yoboi Village, so that in 2024 it can again take part in the Indonesian Tourism Village Award,” he said.
He explained that the government’s support is in the form of efforts to maintain the local culture of the Sentani tribe which has high wisdom value.
“The local culture of the Sentani tribe which is still maintained by the people of Yoboi Village, namely sago culinary specialties and tourism objects exploring the sago forest,” he said again.
He added that the Sentani tribe has a special culinary dish from sago, namely papeda. Apart from that, sago can also produce sago caterpillars and sago mushrooms.
“So when tourists visit Yoboi Village, we will be presented with local culinary delights, all of which are made from sago,” he said.
