PapuaAround.com – Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) in the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), emphasized that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) continue to collaborate in resolving disputes between the two institutions.
“The police and military always have to collaborate in their activities. Certainly, the leaders or commanders of the West Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua Barat) and the TNI have met to communicate and resolve the issue properly,” said Trunoyudo in his official statement in Jakarta on Sunday evening.
This statement was related to the incident of a brawl between personnel from the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the Mobile Brigade unit (Brimob) of the West Papua Regional Police at the Sorong port in Papua on Sunday. According to Trunoyudo, concrete steps have been taken to resolve the conflict.
A similar opinion was expressed by Major General Nugraha Gumilar, Head of the Information Center at TNI Headquarters. Nugraha explained that the leaders of both institutions are currently trying to control their members and mediate. “The actions taken by each leader are to control their subordinates and mediate,” Nugraha said.
The clash between TNI AL personnel and Brimob occurred at the entrance to the waiting area at the Pelindo IV Sorong office in Southwest Papua Province at 09:30 WIT. The incident stemmed from a reprimand issued by a TNI AL member to Brimob personnel at the location. Although there are no details yet about the content of the reprimand, the clash resulted in five people being injured.
Currently, the TNI and Polri are continuing to guard the location to ensure that there is no further conflict between the two parties. Preventive measures are being taken to ensure that the situation remains under control and does not escalate into a larger conflict.
