Papuaaround.com – A civilian woman identified as Anhy Armyanti, 40, died after being assaulted and stabbed by an unidentified group on Saturday evening, October 18, 2025, in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency. The attack occurred on Jalan Sosial at approximately 19:55 WIT and immediately caused fear among residents in the surrounding area.
The incident first came to light through a radio communication received by officers from the Yahukimo Police. The report stated that a violent assault and stabbing targeting a civilian had taken place near a public area on the street. Shortly after receiving the information, a joint team from Operation Peace Cartenz and the Yahukimo Police deployed personnel to the location to secure the crime scene and search for the attackers.
Authorities then discovered the victim, who lived in the Yakini Complex on Jalan Sosial. The officers rushed her to Dekai Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment and a medical examination. Despite the quick evacuation, doctors were unable to save her life, and the victim was pronounced dead as a result of severe injuries sustained during the assault.
Operation Peace Cartenz Chief Brig. Gen. Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani expressed deep condolences following the tragic event. He stressed that the attack was a brutal act against a civilian and stated that law enforcement is committed to pursuing those responsible.
He emphasized that the investigation will move forward without compromise and that the perpetrators must be held accountable for what he described as an inhumane act of violence. Investigators are now gathering witness statements, analyzing evidence from the scene, and reviewing indications that the assault may have been a planned action.
Preliminary findings suggest that the motive behind the stabbing may be linked to efforts by an armed criminal group or its supporters to disrupt regional stability and incite fear among local residents. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and officers are still working to verify this possibility.
Meanwhile, Operation Peace Cartenz Deputy Chief Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga stated that security forces will intensify law-enforcement measures in Yahukimo to prevent similar acts of violence. He explained that patrols and perimeter security will be strengthened in vulnerable zones, particularly in areas where civilians frequently move or gather.
The police also called on residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could trigger public anxiety. Authorities urged the community to immediately report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security post to support the ongoing investigation and broader security efforts.
Both Operation Peace Cartenz and the Yahukimo Police reiterated their commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining order. They vowed to continue working to ensure that similar acts of violence will not occur and that public safety remains the top priority. The agencies also underlined that safeguarding peace in Papua requires cooperation between the security forces and the community.
The victim’s death has drawn sympathy from other local residents, who hope the perpetrators will be arrested swiftly. The incident has also renewed public concern over the safety of Yahukimo civilian in conflict-prone areas.
