Jakarta – The two tribes of Lany Jaya and Nduga who were involved in clashes between residents in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua, on January 8, 2022, agreed to make peace and end the tribal war on Saturday (15/1).
The peace process was carried out at Makodim 1702 Jayawijaya and was attended by a number of officials from the local leadership coordination forum (Forkompinda). Including the Regents of Jayawijaya, Lany Jaya, Nduga, Central Memberamo and Yahukimo.
“As we saw today, we can feel relieved because the efforts and efforts that we have made together from last Saturday to today meet again Saturday,” said Jayawijaya Police Chief AKBP Muh Safei in his statement, Sunday (16/1) .
He mentioned that the five Regents across the region were actively involved in helping the process of resolving family conflicts that occurred in Wouma. Thus, the current conflict can be reconciled.

Meanwhile, the police requested that the entire community be able to maintain the security and order situation together.
“No longer hurting each other and if there are problems that occur we are ready to open the door for settlement, mediation and communication,” he added.
Safei asked that in the future there would be no more tribal wars or disputes involving certain groups in Cenderawasih earth. He asked that every problem be solved.
For information, the clash took place in Wouma Kampung Wesakma, Jayawijaya. The two groups involved in the dispute are the residents of Nduga and Lani Jaya.
The incident left several residents injured. Police noted that three of the victims had injuries to their backs, legs and chest due to arrows or stabs.
The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal explained that the clash occurred at around 15.30 WIT. They attacked each other using traditional tools and resulted in a Lani Jaya resident named Sibelu Gwijangge died as a result of being killed.
The incident resulted in the residents of NDuga not accepting and taking retaliatory actions against the alleged perpetrators who live in Wesakma Village.
It was recorded that around 150 Nduga residents descended from Ilekma to Wouma with weapons of war such as arrows, axes, machetes and spears. The people of Lani Jaya responded to the attack by preparing 300 of its citizens to attack each other.
