PapuaAround.com – In a bid to balance security operations with community welfare, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) have reaffirmed their commitment to benefiting residents in Papua. This dedication was recently demonstrated by officers from the Raider Infantry Battalion 509/Balawara Yudha task force under the Habema Operational Command, as they assisted Bilogai village in Intan Jaya district, Central Papua.

Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, commander of the Habema operational command, emphasized the TNI’s proactive stance in fostering development across Papua. “Our soldiers in Bilogai village are dedicated to accelerating local progress through their duties,” stated General Avianto in a press release issued on Tuesday.

Led by Lieutenant Colonel Dessiawan Setyadi, the task force has been actively involved in daily village activities while fulfilling their security responsibilities. Their efforts extend beyond traditional roles, as seen when they recently assisted Martin, a resident who sustained a minor injury while handling cargo cables. Martin expressed gratitude for the timely intervention by military personnel.

Echoing this sentiment, local vendor Mama Ester praised the TNI for their ongoing support. She highlighted the soldiers’ contribution to her livelihood by purchasing produce at the local market. “TNI soldiers have been a tremendous help to us. They ensure our safety and well-being,” remarked Mama Ester.

This humanitarian approach by the TNI aligns with Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2020, aimed at accelerating welfare development in Papua. The directive underscores the military’s mandate to collaborate closely with local stakeholders to foster sustainable growth.

General Agus Subiyanto, TNI commander, has advocated for a comprehensive strategy to address issues in Papua, emphasizing the importance of soft power in conjunction with security measures. This strategic framework seeks to mitigate tensions in regions like Intan Jaya, Nduga, and Puncak, where armed Papuan groups have historically engaged in sporadic conflicts and targeted attacks on security forces and civilians.

In response to these challenges, the establishment of the Habema Operational Command earlier this year represents a concerted effort by the TNI and police to enhance joint operations in Papua. This initiative aims to preempt local conflicts and neutralize threats posed by armed groups, thereby promoting stability and progress in the region.

The TNI’s multifaceted approach underscores its dual commitment to maintaining security and advancing community welfare in Papua. As they navigate complex challenges, including security threats and development needs, the TNI remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard local populations while fostering sustainable development across Papua.
