The incident unfolded on August 13, 2025, when two Brimob personnel, Brigpol Muhammad Arif Maulana (34) and Bripda Nelson Runaki (26), were ambushed while securing a Trans-Papua road construction site near Kilometer 126, Nabire–Paniai segment. In the aftermath, Task Force Damai Cartenz conducted a forensic investigation and initiated an intensive manhunt for the suspects.

On August 15, 2025, Task Force officers carried out an arrest operation targeting a member of the armed group believed responsible for the assault. The detainee is now in custody for further legal processing.

Task Force leadership emphasized that this arrest demonstrates their unwavering commitment to enforce the law and preserve security. Brigjen Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani highlighted that violent actions against state officials would be met with resolute and measured responses.
