Papua Region-Based Work Expansion Accelerates Prosperity

PAPUAAROUND – The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) continues to implement an area-based employment opportunity expansion program in Papua in order to support the accelerated development of community welfare.

Special Staff to the Minister of Manpower, Caswiyono Rusydie Cw, in a statement received in Jakarta, Saturday, said that the Ministry of Manpower had implemented the program in Bintuni Bay, West Papua since 2021.

Apart from Bintuni Bay, a similar program was also carried out in Mimika, Central Papua.

He conveyed that the area-based job opportunity expansion program was a breakthrough for the Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah to overcome unemployment and poverty based on local potential.

“Papua’s abundant natural potential, both above ground, underground, sea and under the sea is a great economic capital to realize the welfare of the people of Papua,” said Caswiyono Rusydie at the Local Conference on Expansion of Area-Based Job Opportunities in Bintuni Bay, West Papua .

He said the area-based job opportunity expansion program was a cross-sector collaboration program and involved all stakeholders, including the central government, local government, village government, private sector, universities, NGOs and community groups.

The regional meeting was attended by the Ministry of Manpower, OPD within the West Papua Provincial Government, Bappeda and various OPDs within the Teluk Bintuni Regency Government, district heads and village heads in Bintuni Bay.

Then, academics from IPB University, Papua State University, Papua Agricultural Polytechnic, leaders of state-owned and private companies, GIZ, and representatives of community groups in Bintuni Bay.

Local regional consultations were held to discuss and formulate a strategic plan for the Area-Based Job Opportunity Expansion program in Bintuni Bay.

This collaborative program was held in three areas, namely the area of the indigenous Papuans in the Merdey Mountains, the area of the indigenous Papuans on the Masina coast, and the area of the multicultural Nusantara community in Menimeri.

The local consultation resulted in a joint commitment to develop the Area-Based PKK program in Bintuni Bay.

The commitment contains several opportunities. First, the ideas, initiatives and programs for Expanding Area-Based Employment Opportunities in Teluk Bintuni Regency, which have been running for the past year, are starting to show encouraging initial results and should be continued in a consistent and integrated manner.

Second, the parties present at the Local Conference agreed to continue cooperation, collaboration, mutual support, coordination and synergy from various parties, namely the central government including the Sorong Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BPVP), and the Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership Center (BPSKL). ) Maluku and Papua.

Then, the West Papua Provincial Forestry Service, West Papua Provincial Fisheries Service, West Papua Provincial Agricultural Polytechnic, Bintuni Bay Regency Government, West Papua Province, private companies and state-owned enterprises operating in the Bintuni Bay area and its surroundings, as well as GIZ institutions.

Then, build a supply chain in stages and systematically for red fruit products, marine products, animal feed, and various regional products, and organize training that is relevant to the business needs of the regional TKM.

Third, an area-based job opportunity expansion program from the Ministry of Manpower, a social forestry program from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and a community economic development program for the Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua.

“It needs to be escorted in an integrated manner by all parties in order to improve the welfare of the people in an area,” he said.

Fourth, groups and community members involved in the area-based job opportunity expansion program agree to participate in overseeing the sustainability of the program, and work hand in hand and understand each other if there are difficulties and obstacles in program implementation.

Fifth, the parties agreed to develop a strategic plan for the development of the area in the Papuan Indigenous Peoples Area (OAP) in the Merdey Mountains Region, OAP in the Masina Coastal Area, and the Manimeri Nusantara Multicultural Community, Teluk Bintuni Regency in an integrated and participatory manner involving all stakeholders.
