Papuaaround.com – The Papua Provincial Government, through the Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas, has announced that an estimated IDR 5 billion is required to repair a section of the ring road affected by a landslide.

Amos Wenda, the department’s head, stated on Thursday that the issue would be thoroughly discussed with relevant agencies, including the local road authority, to determine the appropriate measures.

“We are currently drafting a proposal, which will then be reviewed together to decide on the best approach for handling this problem,” Wenda explained.

He emphasized that the landslide requires immediate and comprehensive attention due to its location on a key road, which poses significant safety risks.

“Proper handling is crucial to prevent similar incidents in the future, especially since the ring road is a busy route accommodating two-way traffic,” he noted.

Wenda revealed that the current budget is insufficient to cover the required repairs, underscoring the need for collaboration with other relevant agencies.

“Frankly, our budget has faced a significant decline, making joint efforts essential, especially as this involves public safety and accessibility,” he pointed out.

Given the financial constraints, cooperation between governmental and local stakeholders is seen as pivotal in resolving the issue efficiently and minimizing further disruptions.

In light of the ongoing situation, Wenda urged the public to exercise caution when traveling along the affected road section.

“We remind residents to remain vigilant because there is still a risk of additional landslides,” he warned.

Authorities are reportedly exploring temporary solutions to maintain traffic flow while long-term repair strategies are being finalized.

The Papua Provincial Government’s proactive approach underscores the importance of infrastructure maintenance and public safety in the region. The landslide highlights the challenges posed by geographical conditions and weather patterns, which require careful and strategic intervention.

With the ring road serving as a critical transportation artery for residents and businesses alike, swift action is essential to ensure continued access and prevent further incidents.
