PapuaAround.com – In a proactive move towards ensuring a smooth and secure electoral process, the Papua Regional Police, under the leadership of Inspector General Pol. Mathius D. Fakhiri, S.I.K, has taken significant strides in the preparation for the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

During a press interaction on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, held at the Main Lobby of the old Police Headquarters in Jayapura City, the Papua Police Chief revealed that election logistics had already reached four provinces: Papua, Papua Highlands, Central Papua, and South Papua.

The Papua Police Chief entrusted the Deputy Police Chief of Papua, Brigadier General Pol. Petrus Patrige Rudolf Renwarin, S.H., M.Si., and the Internal Affairs Director of Papua Police, Police Commissioner Pol. Drs. Yosi Muhamartha, to oversee the seamless distribution of these crucial materials.

Emphasizing the meticulous attention given to logistics deployment, the Papua Police Chief stated, “I’m requesting that, over the last 2 weeks, we ensure that all election logistics have been distributed to the respective areas.”

Beyond logistics, the Police Chief extended an invitation to the chairpersons of the Election Commission (KPU) in vulnerable areas for a strategic dialogue. This discussion aims to identify areas where the community can exercise their voting rights securely, without compromising the safety of personnel involved in the electoral process.

Furthermore, concerning the bolstering of security personnel for the election, the Papua Police Chief announced a formidable reinforcement of 8,617 personnel designated to support the security of Polling Stations (TPS) on election day.

“This reinforcement will be allocated on a rotating basis to the Regional Police. The reinforcement from the Police, totaling more than 2000, will be transferred to the Regional Police to strengthen it to reach 4000 personnel,” explained the Police Chief, illustrating a comprehensive plan for optimized security coverage.

Highlighting the collaborative spirit, he shared that a reserve force from the Indonesian National Army (TNI), comprising around 700 personnel, has been prepared to assist the Police. Additionally, the Nusantara Mobile Brigade (Brimob) will contribute 5 companies to reinforce the Police, executing a meticulously planned shift to the Regional Police in the legal jurisdiction of the Police within the next 2 weeks.

The proactive measures and strategic collaborations undertaken by the Papua Regional Police reflect a commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of the electoral process in the Papua region, setting a positive tone for the upcoming 2024 General Election.
