PAPUAAROUND – The earthquake that hit Jayapura City, Papua on Thursday (9/2/23) displaced hundreds of people.
A number of personnel from the Papua Police were deployed to assist the victims, ranging from data collection, evacuation, preparing emergency tents to trauma healing teams for the victims.
The Psychology Team of the Human Resources Bureau of the Papua Regional Police also participated in the rescue of residents by establishing a Psychology Team Post to help residents affected by the earthquake.
By deploying 28 personnel, the team provided counseling to refugees of earthquake victims in Jayapura City, Papua.
The activity was carried out on February 12, 2023 in the BTN Bank field and the parish grounds of the Asisi Franciscan Church.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Kombes Pol Ignatius Benny Prabowo, said that the assistance of a team of psychologists was intended to help reduce excessive fear (trauma) arising from communities affected by the earthquake.
“The team implemented individual counseling and relaxation methods in adults as well as play methods for children who took refuge in the tent. In addition, we also distribute parcels to children around the refugee camp,” said Benny, on Monday (13/2/2023).
“The children at the evacuation site were happy and comforted because of the presence of police officers playing together at the evacuation site,” Benny added.
An earthquake of 5.4 magnitude struck Jayapura City on February 9, 2023. As a result of the earthquake, as many as 4 people died and reportedly a number of houses and public facilities were damaged.
