PapuaAround.com – The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, expressed her deep appreciation for the progress of development achieved in the province of Papua. During a meeting with the Papua Regional Police Chief in Jayapura on Monday, Ambassador Penny Williams expressed her delight at the opportunity to witness firsthand the development progress in the region.
“This visit marks my first time in Papua where cooperation between the Australian and Indonesian governments has been realized, including in Papua,” said Ambassador Penny Williams.
According to the Australian Ambassador Williams, the opportunity to see the development in Papua firsthand is a source of great pride for her. She even demonstrated her proficiency in Indonesian language in conveying her joy.
Meanwhile, Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Pol. Mathius Fakhiri, acknowledged that he had invited Ambassador Penny Williams to visit the mountainous regions of Papua, such as Wamena, to see the progress of development there.
“If it’s just us saying it, it might not be very convincing. However, with a direct visit, we can ensure that development has reached the mountainous areas of Papua,” explained the Regional Police Chief.
In particular, with the construction of roads that nearly connect all regions in Papua, it is hoped that the benefits will soon be enjoyed by the local communities.
During the meeting, the Papua Regional Police Chief also expressed his hope that police officers in Papua would be given the opportunity to observe firsthand the operations of the Australian police force.
“I hope that police officers serving in Papua can directly observe how the Australian police operate in the field,” said Inspector General Pol. Mathius Fakhiri.
The visit of Australian Ambassador Penny Williams to Papua underscores not only the progress achieved in the region but also the importance of international cooperation in fostering development. As Papua continues on its path towards prosperity, the recognition and support from Australia serve as a testament to the dedication and efforts of both local and international stakeholders.
