Kalibiru a Crystal Clear River in Raja Ampat

Kalibiru

As an archipelagic country, Indonesia has many tourist destinations to explore. Especially the eastern region of Indonesia in Raja Ampat.

Raja Ampat is a tourist paradise in eastern Indonesia. In addition to the enchanting sea and nature below, this regency in West Papua also has a beautiful river as clear as a blue crystal surrounded by dense and beautiful forests.

This beautiful river is called Kalibiru. It is located in Warsambin Village, Mayalibit Bay District, Raja Ampat. Located in the hinterland of Warsabim Village, tourists must walk through the forest to see this beautiful river.

Because in the middle of the forest, Kalibiru has a burning water color, beautiful, and the riverbed is very clearly visible. Wow, that’s amazing!

Kalibiru is located in the interior of the Raja Ampat forest. If you want to visit here, tourists need about an hour by speedboat from Waisai, the capital of Raja Ampat.

After that, tourists continue the journey by trekking from the estuary where the ship rests. Then enter the forest for about 30 minutes. The trip can be enjoyed with beautiful natural scenery.

Kalibiru River is closely related to local legends. In the past, this Kalibiru was one of the sacred places of the Mayalibit Tribe to soak or bathe before fighting.

The soldiers will bathe in the Kalibiru river to become stronger in the face of war and be able to defeat the enemy.

There is even another legend that has also been heard that there is a white crocodile living in this Kalibiru river. If someone violates local customary law, a white crocodile will appear.

In addition to the name Kalibiru, local people also call this river by the name of Waiyal. Wai means “water”, while Yal means “know what will happen tomorrow”.

There are also other residents who call this river called Kalibiru Warabiar. In Papuan, Warabiar means “clear”. It is very suitable if it is named Kalibiru Warabiar, because you can look at the riverbed without using any tools.

The depth of Kalibiru is estimated to be more than 5 meters, but there are some parts whose depth is 2-3 meters. Even if it is deep, the flow of the Kalibiru river is also very calm.

Kalibiru Privileges
In addition to the crystal-clear water, the water temperature in Kalibiru is also very cold. Despite exposure to sunlight, the temperature reaches 10-20 degrees Celsius. Although it has very cold water, when it is at the mouth of the river, the water temperature is slightly warm.

Tourists who visit are allowed to swim with some requirements put forward by the manager, such as swimming no more than 30 minutes.

Then when swimming do not use skin care products, and change clothes to take a shower in the toilet that has been provided.

Although it is already allowed to swim in the river, tourists are not allowed to swim in springs close to Kalibiru. This is done to maintain the sanctity of water and as a form of respect for ancestors.

If you are on vacation to Raja Ampat, don’t pass this tourist destination
