Indonesian National Police Distributes 264.7 Tons of Rice and 1,500 Staple Foods to Papuans Affected by Drought

PAPUAAROUND – National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo distributed 264.7 tons of rice to 1,500 basic food packages to be given to the people of Central Papua who were affected by drought and famine.

Head of the National Police Public Relations Division (Kadiv) Inspector General Sandi Nugroho revealed that the aid had been sent to the Central Papua region which would then be handed over directly to people in need.

“Currently, the amount of social assistance is 264.7 tonnes of rice,” Sandi told journalists, Jakarta, Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Not only that, Sandi said, National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo also sent 1,500 basic food packages, containing 5 kg of rice, instant noodles, sweetened condensed milk, sardines and sweet soy sauce.

Then, assistance was also sent to the community in the form of 1,000 adult jackets and 150 children’s jackets.

According to Sandi, to distribute humanitarian assistance to people in need, the National Police work together with all related parties.

“The Indonesian National Police is working with the TNI, BNPB and the Puncak Regency Government to distribute the humanitarian aid,” Sandi said.

Sandi explained that the aid would be taken by plane from Timika to the disaster site in Agandume in about 40 minutes and to Sinak in about 1 hour.

“The aid that arrived at Agandume was then distributed by land route or on foot to Lambewi and Oneri with an estimate of half a day,” Sandi said.
