Sajojo dance is famous outside Papua for its energetic movements and cheerful dances. The name of the dance is taken from the title of the song that accompanies it, namely Sajojo Song.

The song Sajojo is a song from the Papuan region that tells the story of a girl who is idolized and loved in her hometown. The lyrics of the song do not describe the Sajojo Dance, but the song that accompanies the cheerful is in accordance with the dance movement.

Sajojo dance is danced in groups, so that its energetic movements, cheerful song accompaniment will combine well if danced together and produce a festive and compact impression.

Sajojo Dance Movements

Sajojo Dance movements focus on foot movements and also stepping up. Movement of the legs in the forward, back, right, and left directions. Sajojo dance has firm movements.

The movements of Sajojo Dance are as follows:
1. The first position, from the bottom half standing and half sitting.
2. When the song is played, the standing movement then jumps in the front and also the back direction. The hand is opened forward when jumping forward, and at the time of jumping back the hand is placed down.
3. The movement is performed several times until the lyrics of Sajojo Song are sung.
4. Jump right, then jump back at the starting position. When it was in the starting position applauded twice.
5. Walk forward and backward four times accompanied by moving your hands right and left.
6. Do the above movements for several times. After that look at the circle then stomping the foot while rotating around the circle.
