Papuaaround.com – In a Working Meeting (Raker) of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held on Tuesday (Dec 3, 2024), Commission V Chairman Lasarus confirmed that no additional budget will be allocated to the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) or its partner ministries for 2025. Lasarus emphasized that the budget discussed in the meeting was a distribution from the previously approved allocation.
“The budget presented today is a distribution from the allocation that has already been approved. There is no new budget or additional allocation from the Ministry of Finance for any of the ministries under Commission V up to this point,” Lasarus stated during the meeting. He further noted that the internal discussion within the DPR had confirmed this decision, ensuring clarity going forward.
According to a letter from the Minister of Finance dated September 23, 2024, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has been allocated a total budget of IDR 116.22 trillion for 2025. Of this amount, IDR 110.95 trillion is allocated to the Ministry of Public Works, while IDR 5.27 trillion will go to the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo detailed that the PUPR budget will be distributed across various directorates, including the Directorate General of Water Resources, which will receive IDR 38.42 trillion; the Directorate General of Highways with IDR 37.31 trillion; the Directorate General of Cipta Karya with IDR 11.52 trillion; and the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure with IDR 21.85 trillion.

Despite the confirmation of no additional funding, Dody Hanggodo also presented the Ministry’s need for additional funds to support several key initiatives, including the development of the new capital city, Nusantara (IKN), and the support for newly formed autonomous regions in Papua. He explained that the Ministry is requesting an additional IDR 60.6 trillion for 2025, which would cover IDR 14.87 trillion for IKN and IDR 4 trillion for Papua’s provincial expansion.
“We plan to propose an additional budget of around IDR 60.6 trillion for 2025, especially to support the development of IKN and the new provinces in Papua,” said Dody. He expressed hope that this additional funding would be considered by the relevant authorities.
In addition, Dody expressed a desire for the continuation of previous Presidential Instructions (Inpres), such as those related to regional roads, irrigation, and water supply and sanitation. “We are in the early stages of discussions with Bappenas, and we hope the drafts for these Inpres will soon reach the President’s desk,” he added.
Despite the lack of new budget approvals, the government remains committed to ensuring the continuation and growth of infrastructure projects aimed at supporting national and regional development.
