Papuaaround.com – A joint team from the Damai Cartenz Task Force and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) engaged in an armed clash with an armed criminal group (KKB) in Yahukimo Regency during an evacuation mission earlier this week. The confrontation occurred in Seradala District as security forces attempted to rescue four civilians who had escaped a deadly attack in Yahukimo allegedly carried out by the group on Sunday and Monday.

Despite the exchange of fire, the joint team successfully evacuated four civilians who were found alive. The rescued victims were identified as Bakri Laode (38) from Bau-Bau, Febri also known as Basir (46) from Donggala, Tarik Baruba also known as Taslim (44) from Sanger, and Berti Oliver Dias (30) from Ambon. All four men were gold miners who had been trapped in the Seradala mining area following the violent incident.

After the evacuation, security forces transported the survivors to the Yahukimo Police headquarters for medical checks and further coordination. Authorities confirmed that the victims were in stable condition and were receiving the necessary treatment.

Damai Cartenz Operations Commander Brig. Gen. Faizal Ramadhani praised the courage and professionalism of the personnel deployed in the field. He stated that despite the life-threatening situation, the officers remained focused on their mission to save civilians. “We extend our highest appreciation to all personnel involved. Even under armed confrontation, they managed to secure the victims safely. This reflects our strong commitment to protecting every civilian life in Papua,” he said on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Brig. Gen. Faizal further emphasized that the Damai Cartenz operation would continue to prioritize law enforcement with a humanist approach while ensuring the protection of local residents. He noted that maintaining safety in conflict-prone areas remained a top priority for security agencies.

In a related statement, Deputy Operations Commander of Damai Cartenz, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, underlined that security operations in Yahukimo would be reinforced. He assured that tactical and coordinated steps would be taken in collaboration with all elements of law enforcement to preserve stability in the region. “Law enforcement against armed groups will be carried out in a measured, focused, and professional manner,” he explained.

Officials confirmed that the four rescued civilians in Yahukimo are now under protection and continue to receive care from authorities. Meanwhile, surveillance and monitoring remain ongoing in Seradala District to prevent further disturbances.

The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Papua, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted civilians and disrupted economic activities. Authorities have stressed that the safety of residents will remain central to ongoing security operations in the region.

With this latest evacuation, security forces reiterated their commitment to combining operational readiness with humanitarian principles. The coordinated mission not only safeguarded lives but also reassured local communities that protection efforts are being carried out with consistency and determination.
