PAPUAAROUND – The chairman of the DPD Taruna Merah Putih Papua Province, Mardiantika Watubun, invited the young generation of Papua to fight for women’s rights.
“Based on my reflection and looking at social conditions, women seem to have (access) still limited,” said Tika, greeting Mardiantika Watubun, to journalists, Tuesday (11/4/2023).
In fact, said Tika, women can actually develop rapidly if they get opportunities, especially access to education.
Seeing this condition, Tika felt compelled to initiate the implementation of the Papua Youth Model United Nations program.
“The Papua Youth Model United Nations (MUN) program was created based on the initiation of Taruna Merah Putih,” said Tika.
The alumnus of International Relations from Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung hopes that the children who are members of the TMP (Taruna Merah Putih) can directly participate both as participants and as committee members in the Papua Youth MUN activities which are planned to be held on 4-6 May 2023.
“This is also one of my hopes that young Papuans will build relationships so that their insights will open up when interacting with young people from other regions,” said Tika.
Tika explained that the Model United Nations (MUN) was a simulation of the United Nations (UN) conference.
The MUN participants who attend will act as delegates from a country.
In MUN activities, said Tika, individuals will be involved in discussions or deliberations with a specific agenda in the form of a council that discusses issues currently being discussed in the world.
During the session, the delegates will present arguments and negotiate on behalf of their country’s interests regarding the topics discussed at the session.
Through participation in MUN activities, according to Tika, the younger generation can participate in discussing and criticizing current global issues.
In addition, Tika explained that MUN teaches participants to have skills in writing, negotiating, conveying substantive arguments and speaking in front of various other participants as representatives of their respective countries.
Given the various benefits that participants get from these activities, MUN has been carried out in various universities and organizations in various provinces in Indonesia.
